Unless you're a sick freak who's actually gonna pay attention to the USFL and XFL, football season is mercifully over. That means it's time to dig into the archives and re-examine some of the best performances/games/moments in college football history to fill the content void until we get closer to the 2023 season. (Worst Game Ever: Season 2 coming soon!)
Today, I want to take a look at the time former Louisville DE Elvis Dumervil single-handedly wrecked Kentucky's offense with six sacks in the Cardinals' 2005 season opener:
Dumervil is only one of three FBS players since 2000 –as far back as the college football reference play index will go– to have six or more sacks in a single game.
He forced fumbles on two of them, recovered one –returning it for a touchdown before it was called back– had a separate tackle for loss, and made 11 total tackles in a 31-24 Cardinals win that ended up being one of the craziest games that season.
