RB Respect Month, Day 20: CJ Spiller vs. Florida State (2009)
This is all you need to know about CJ Spiller if you weren't already aware:
Beyond just what he did on the field, Clemson isn't the Clemson we know today without Spiller. Dabo Swinney stole him away from Urban Meyer and Bobby Bowden in 2006, transforming the way future recruits saw a program that hadn't won 10 games in a season since 1990.* There's no Sammy Watkins, Deshaun Watson, Trevor Lawrence, Tee Higgins, Tahj Boyd, etc. without CJ Spiller spurning Florida and Florida State.
*Tommy Bowden was Clemson's Head Coach when Spiller arrived in 2006, but Swinney was the Wide Receivers Coach/Recruiting Coordinator until taking over for Bowden during the 2008 season, and is widely credited for being the one responsible for his recruitment.
I've told you before that Spiller is one of my favorite players ever. His full highlight reel is arguably the best I've made, and you should carve out some time to watch it after you're done with this article.
